宝马从飞机发动机起步，本田在摩托车找到自己的兴奋点，比它们更早的斯柯达在1895年圣诞却从一家很小的自行车厂开始了自己百年的旅程。1895年圣诞周，机械师VaclavLaurin(1865-1930)和商人VaclavKlement(1868-1938)开始管理一家自行车厂，这就是有名的L&K公司。当时公司只有7人，从事自行车的生产和维修，以Slavia做商标。捷克语Slavia是”奴隶”的意思，由于当时捷克被奥匈帝国奴役，他们以此来告诫人们不忘国耻。
